DropPrev® CHA is an organic acid with potent anti-corrosion and antibacterial properties, specifically targeting molds like Aspergillus niger. Unlike many organic acids, it remains undissociated and highly effective across a neutral to acidic pH range, making it ideal for use as a preservative in cosmetics and personal care products. It acts through chelation of Fe²⁺ and Fe³⁺ in iron-restricted environments, limiting microbial growth while maintaining excellent skin compatibility.
INCI Name: Caprylhydroxamic Acid
CAS Number: 7377-03-9
Function: Anti-corrosion, Anti-bacterial
Benefits
-
Broad-Spectrum Bacteriostatic Activity:
- Remains highly effective in neutral pH environments, ensuring long-lasting preservation.
- Proven inhibitory effects against molds, especially Aspergillus niger, with an MIC of 780 ppm.
-
Chelation Effect:
- Selectively chelates Fe²⁺ and Fe³⁺, restricting mold growth in iron-limited environments.
- High stability of Fe³⁺ chelation prevents microbial proliferation effectively.
-
Enhanced Stability:
- Maintains functionality in neutral pH formulations, outperforming other preservative alternatives.
- Short-chain activity promotes microbial cell membrane degradation for effective preservation.
-
Safety and Versatility:
- Extensively studied for use in humans and animals, demonstrating high safety levels.
- Ideal for replacing traditional preservatives in cosmetic applications.
Suggested Usage
- Concentration: 0.05%–0.15%
-
Applications:
- Creams, lotions, and shampoos
- Bath washes and facial masks
- Wet tissues and makeup products
-
Method of Incorporation:
- Add during the emulsification or cool-down phase; temperature sensitivity is minimal.
Features
- Effective across neutral pH levels, ensuring consistent bacteriostatic performance.
